19-year-old Liomar Martinez is off to a dominant 2025. The young Dominican went 3.2 scoreless (and hitless) innings on 4/5. He struck out eight with three walks that day. His latest work (video above) was even better, as the mostly two-pitch attack was more crisp and better executed. Martinez threw 58 pitches in both outings, 59% strikes the first go ’round, 67% this time. Both outings were fairly similar attack-wise. The breaking ball earned most the whiffs 4/5, whereas this day the two offerings had their fair share. Here is the breakdown from 4/5:

Martinez logged 17 innings with Jupiter at the end of last season, six appearances/five starts. Reviewing him this offseason the repertoire seemed unremarkable and execution poor. Here is a breakdown of his last 2024 appearance:

The fastball has grown teeth and the curveball looks to have better shape while also being utilized better than the feral 2024 version. The breaking ball now appears to be punching below its weight in the FSL. Dominating A ball with an exceptional secondary isn’t unprecedented. With no idea how consistently he can perform like this, if a teenager keeps throwing up nothing but zeros and striking out 65.4% of hitters, dynasty folks are going to get their hype trains boiling. But of course that is outrageously unsustainable. Martinez’ full-season career is just getting started, and while I’m curious how this might go, there are far more questions than answers. We’ll keep an eye out here, more so about potentially playing the dynasty game-within-the game than jumping into a committed investment while the two-pitch Martinez looks to carve out his developmental innings.
Note: That CRV–>CHG–>SI–>CHG for the backwards K vs Duran, a righty…he shows more of that and my interest significantly increases.
