Carlos Duran’s 3/29/25 (Complete Outing)

Duran is young (23), large (6′7″) and car­ries two poten­tial plus to dou­ble plus pitch­es in the fast­ball and slid­er. Yet to log more than 81 IP in a sea­son (2021), Duran seems tee’d up to test his horse­pow­er this sea­son. More throw­er than pitch­er and mechan­i­cal­ly slop­py, the opti­mistic Dodgers don’t seem to be inter­fer­ing much with Duran’s work. Duran missed all of ’23 and a good chunk of ’24 recov­er­ing from Tom­my John surgery. Cur­rent­ly ros­tered in 1% of Fantrax leagues, a pop­u­lar­i­ty vs dynasty util­i­ty dis­con­nect may exist.

Video chopped up like this, you can more eas­i­ly see the incon­sis­ten­cies in his deliv­ery. The front foot comes down incon­sis­tent­ly, back foot bare­ly, if at all drags. Tom House likes to call the back foot the rut­ter of the whole oper­a­tion, keep­ing every­thing from aim­less­ly veer­ing off course. There’s a yank of the shoulders/head toward first. This isn’t to say he can’t make it work, but that he’s giv­ing him­self a rougher road to con­sis­ten­cy. On the oth­er hand, he’s a mus­tang one lev­el down from The Show, which leads to day­dreams of what a lit­tle tam­ing may yield.
