Duran is young (23), large (6′7″) and carries two potential plus to double plus pitches in the fastball and slider. Yet to log more than 81 IP in a season (2021), Duran seems tee’d up to test his horsepower this season. More thrower than pitcher and mechanically sloppy, the optimistic Dodgers don’t seem to be interfering much with Duran’s work. Duran missed all of ’23 and a good chunk of ’24 recovering from Tommy John surgery. Currently rostered in 1% of Fantrax leagues, a popularity vs dynasty utility disconnect may exist.
Video chopped up like this, you can more easily see the inconsistencies in his delivery. The front foot comes down inconsistently, back foot barely, if at all drags. Tom House likes to call the back foot the rutter of the whole operation, keeping everything from aimlessly veering off course. There’s a yank of the shoulders/head toward first. This isn’t to say he can’t make it work, but that he’s giving himself a rougher road to consistency. On the other hand, he’s a mustang one level down from The Show, which leads to daydreams of what a little taming may yield.
Perfect. Wanted to look at what Duran had to offer and it’s all here.
